A High School Student Drinks Excessively With His Cronies, Almost Dies From Alcohol Poisoning, And Discovers That Learning Something In Class Can Affect Your Life

Andy was a ninth grader who regularly seemed to be living on the edge. Andy had an adventurous personality and generally wanted to do what his older brothers were doing. The core problem with this was that all three of his brothers were at least 21 years old and were as a consequence within their legal rights to operate a car and to ingest alcohol.

Andy, on the other hand, had a rough time comprehending that as a fifteen-year-old teenager he should not be drinking. In fact, then again, Andy regularly drank with his pals after school, particularly on the weekends.

One weekend, Andy made up his mind to drive around with some of his older buddies. One of his pals was old enough to buy alcohol. After buying some beer, wine, and wine coolers, Andy and all of his cronies went to a park and drank for something like two hours.

After drinking something like six wine coolers, Andy started to feel nauseous and then threw up. When he passed out on the tennis court, one of his buddies called 911 for immediate help. It was fortunate that the call for medical help was made because when his guy friends went to the hospital to see Andy, they were told that Andy had been exhibiting alcohol poisoning symptoms. More to the point, Andy had experienced an alcohol overdose.

After getting alcohol poisoning treatment, Andy was actually startled to discover that he had overdosed on alcohol because he "only" had roughly five or ten drinks. When he stated this to the attending physician at the hospital, conversely, the physician notified Andy that drinking five or ten bottles of beer over a two or three hour time frame could in reality be quite a bit more alcohol than can be processed by the body. The healthcare professional further explained how extreme amounts of alcohol can cause the brain to shut down a person's breathing and that when this happens, an individual can expire.

This was the first forewarning to Andy that he was drinking in a dangerous fashion and that there are consequences for such actions. The physician told Andy that he was a fortunate young man because he almost perished from an alcohol overdose the previous night.

The doctor also had a word with Andy's parents and suggested that they get alcohol rehab for Andy. His parents were thrilled that Andy was all right and notified the physician that they would get Andy alcohol therapy.

While speaking to his parents, Andy told them that there must be a special reason why he did not die and that he felt a sense of thanksgiving that he was still alive. He also told his parents that the odd part about the entire drinking situation was that he had learned about alcohol poisoning the previous six week grading period at school.

At the time, what his health instructor, Mr. Johnson, was saying didn't seem to make a lot of sense to Andy. Now that he almost passed away, however, he felt that he should have listened more attentively in class and applied what he had learned to his daily living.

Andy told his parents that he couldn't wait to go to Mr. Johnson's classroom and apologize to Mr. Johnson for not displaying more attention to something that was as significant as learning about alcohol poisoning.
