A Married Couple Becomes Fretful About Their Irresponsible And Hazardous Drinking And Questions Whether They Exhibit Any Signs Of Alcoholism

Angie and Lenny have been married for three years. They wanted to have some excitement and fun before they made up their minds to have some kids and so they consciously developed an exceptionally vigorous social life.

The chief problem, however, is that just about everything they do for excitement somehow includes drinking. For instance, all of the sporting events, dinner engagements, family get-togethers, parties with friends, and happy hours they frequent somehow include drinking.

If they were responsible drinkers this wouldn't be a big problem. Since they drink in an excessive manner, nonetheless, they are beginning to notice some definite alcohol-related issues in their lives.

As an illustration, just six days ago Lenny received his first DUI and has been ignoring responsibilities at work because of alcohol-related health problems. Not only this, but Lenny's last two performance reviews at his place of employment have been less than laudable and he has started to forget what he does or says the times that he drinks. As a final point, Lenny has been experiencing sleep-related problems and his family is starting to exhibit apprehension about his drinking problems.

Not unlike Lenny's situation, Angie has been feeling depressed about things in her life and to cope with these feelings, she has been drinking more habitually than any time in the past year. What is more, Angie has been experiencing more than a few painful headaches and having terrible hangovers after drinking. Lastly, Angie has been feeling appreciably less active in the morning, she has been showing up late for work, and she has been getting some inconsiderate criticism from her coworkers, family members, relatives, and friends about her abusive drinking.

One Monday evening while watching TV, Angie and Lenny without any planning whatsoever discovered a documentary about alcohol facts and alcoholism facts in general and about the signs of alcoholism in particular. This TV documentary was a real surprise to Lenny and Angie because some of the alcohol facts that were listed looked like they were undeniably associated with more than a few of the drinking problems Angie and Lenny had been going through.

With thoughts of the TV program still running through her mind, Angie asked Lenny if some of the alcohol dependency signs they have been manifesting could mean that they are alcohol dependent or maybe becoming alcoholic. Lenny didn't know the answer to Angie's inquiry and so he suggested that they make an appointment with one of the healthcare practitioners at the nearby substance abuse treatment center to find out more about the severity of their drinking situation.

Paradoxically, even though their drinking behavior hadn't yet changed, it was obvious that Lenny and Angie were at the very least addressing their drinking problems, they were ready to find out more about their drinking circumstances, and they were interested in finding out how they could significantly reduce or get rid of the drinking-related difficulties that had started to escalate.

When Angie and Lenny went to bed that night, they determined that the next afternoon, Lenny would call and make an appointment for both of them at the drug and alcohol rehab clinic located in the middle of town. After they promised one another that they would do whatever it takes to defeat the drinking difficulties that had cropped up in their lives, they actually had the most revitalizing night's sleep they could recollect in the last year.
