Country-Western Music - Love It Or Dislike It, You Probably Have An Attitude!
Everybody has their opinions. We start forming likes and dislikes from an awfully early age. Some of our evaluations are formed based upon our own experiences and others we form based upon what we hear from the people around us. Kids readily pick up what the grown-ups around them are saying. This is why most family members belong to the same political party & practice the exact same religion; it's what they grew up with. A fantastic deal of what we value comes from what we were exposed to as children. On occasion we find that we change our opinion on something once we have experienced it for our-selves because the opinion was based on what we were taught rather than from personal experience.
In the family I grew up in my father liked to have things quiet. He worked quite hard at his job & running a piece of farmland so when he sat down for the evening he did not like a whole lot of noise or activity going on around him. We could have the tv on low or he would put on albums of classical music. It was the only music he would listen to. If we had the radio on and western-country music, even country wedding songs, or rock & roll would come on he would say to us to turn it off. He did not understand rock & roll & he thought country-western music was hokey, even the love ballads and country wedding songs. I was exposed to rock and roll through my friends, radio & dances & like it. I didn't listen to country western music at all. I held my dad's opinion of it. Then I started a dating a young man in college that listened to country-western music at all times. He liked the beat of the music and the stories that most of the songs told.
I truly liked him so when we began dating I put up with the music & tuned it out. We then went to a large outdoor music show that featured numerous of the hottest country western bands. From that point on I was hooked. I discovered that I also liked the stories the songs told and the music was enjoyable to dance to. At the out-of-doors music show event I met several of my boyfriend's friends. They taught me how to line-dance to some of the songs. I slow-danced to some ballads and country wedding songs. After college I moved to another city and so I lost touch with my boyfriend. Finally I married my current husband & we are raising our family. I still listen to all kinds of music, but every time I hear country western music I think back to that concert and how I came to appreciate it. I attempt to let my kids experience quite a few different things growing up and try not to influence their opinions.
