The Adverse Effects Of Too Much Work And Hazardous And Excessive Drinking And The Inspiration For Alcohol Therapy

Work was becoming too hectic for a young police officer named Lonnie. Even though he had only been on the police force for five-and-a-half years, he was already very well known as a very hard worker who rarely said no to working overtime. If truth be told, he was now working ten to fifteen hours of overtime each week and, consequently, he felt like he was losing his grip on his personal life. What complicated the situation was the fact that Lonnie started going out drinking with a group of fellow officers after his shift.

Noticeably Lonnie was in a emotional and health related rut and going through some adverse signs of alcoholism. Where Lonnie really experienced drinking related issues and alcoholism signs, however, was in his family life and in his marriage. His wife wasn't really a nag, but she typically encouraged him to stay at home more with her and with the kids rather than going out and spending money while drinking with his fellow officers.

When he was really honest with himself, it was apparent to Lonnie that his irresponsible drinking was adversely affecting his pocketbook, relationship with his family, work, and his health. So one Monday morning Lonnie arrived at a decision to talk to Richard, a trusted old police officer buddy that he greatly admired.

Lonnie told Richard how careless and irresponsible drinking was adversely affecting his pocketbook, relationship with his family, work, and his health. Richard articulated to Lonnie that he totally understood because around eight years ago, he too involved himself with abusive and careless drinking. In fact, Richard told Lonnie that careless and irresponsible drinking can create so many problems in an individual's life that just about everything of significance can be ruined. And finally, Richard recommended that Lonnie make an appointment with an alcohol counselor at the work-affiliated alcohol abuse center.

Since his employee's assistance program was affiliated with this treatment clinic, it was not only quite affordable but also very convenient to get some quality counseling about his abusive and careless drinking. And due to the fact that the staff at the alcohol abuse center was non-judgmental, supportive, and competent, Lonnie would be able to get alcohol rehab that made sense to him and something he could accomplish.

After talking to his therapist about how his drinking was ruining his pocketbook, relationship with his family, work, and his health, Lonnie realized that he was burning the candle at both ends with his excessive work hours and his abusive and unhealthy drinking. Once he understood that he was getting himself into a rut, after detoxification and with the help of his psychologist, and after twelve weeks in rehab, he was at long last able to stop drinking and quit working overtime.

The result was that Lonnie perceived life in a different way now that he was in alcohol recovery and learned about alcoholism facts. To be more specific, due to his alcohol rehab he not only had more quality time to spend with his family, but he felt better and more healthy, he actually had more money now even though he was working far fewer hours each week, and he was more patient when interacting with his wife and his children. As luck would have it, now that he stopped drinking, Lonnie and his wife were not only starting to save some money for a new house but he also felt more alert and more energized than anytime since he and his wife got married.
